Second Parliamentary Session Organized By The Siddons Debating Club

The second parliamentary session organized by the Siddons Debating Club (SDC) of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) occurred at the Ibn e Sina Academy in Dodhpur, Aligarh, starting at 2:30 PM.

The session revolved around a thought-provoking motion: “University Hostels serve merely as a place to live.” It was anchored by Mohammad Ghayasuddin, and chaired by Mr. Mohd Aiyub, who himself is serving as a teacher and a provost of Allama Iqbal Hall.

The arguments against the motion were presented by Arif Khan, Farhan Zuberi, Farham Ali, Sakib Ali and Janib Hasan. Only two individuals, Areeb Khan and Aquib Khan, spoke in favour of the motion.

The debate covered various aspects, from cultural heritage to the holistic development of students, and included a rebuttal regarding the purpose of residential accommodation.

The event concluded with a motivating speech by Mr Aiyub, who shared his experiences from his time during the elections of AMUSU. He also discussed how times have changed and expressed concerns about the current state.
